Plain-Language Discharge Communication
This fictional portfolio demonstration is not clinical guidance and does not replace an organization’s approved procedures or materials.
Challenge
Design revision practice around fictional patient-facing instructions that have comprehension barriers such as jargon, indirect verbs, and buried actions.
Learning Goal
Given a fictional instruction, learners identify comprehension barriers and select a clearer, action-oriented revision while preserving essential meaning.
Design Approach
Pair a before-and-after comparison with brief revision practice and a concise point-of-need communication check.
Learning Interactions
Learners identify barriers, select a clearer revision, and choose a teach-back prompt that checks whether an explanation was clear.
Accessibility and Usability
The planned experience will use accessible click-to-identify interactions, concise explanatory feedback, visible progress, keyboard access, and an accessible PDF job aid.
Role and Tools
Portfolio concept, content analysis, plain-language revision design, and planned Adobe Captivate development.
